Girl group Wonder Girls members SunYe, YooBin, YeEun and SoHee talks about their feelings on SunMi leaving the group.
The 4 WonderGirls members had a meeting with their Wonder Girls fan union on 8th February and the fan union released the details throught their fancafe at about 11pm.
According to the representative of the fan union, SunMi’s training was shorter as compared to the other members since her debut she had missed out a much of her schooling life. And the members constantly felt SunMi’s regrets about it after they had their American debut.
They told the fans, “But our responses were the same as fans when it was revealed that SunMi will be stopping her promotions as Wonder Girls for the time being. At first we panicked, and said that she will regret this, but after awhile we calmed down and gave our support for her decision.”
They also said, “And we know that SunMi is not one to make such decisions lightly, she has been thinking about this for a while, and discussed it with the members and company.”
And the Wonder Girls member explained that rumours of the company pushing SunMi to leave the group is groundless. They said, “Debuting in the States was a dream which all the members have dreamt of. Even though we were afraid with all the saying that it is too early for our American debut, we really wanted to go to the States.”
They added, “The company also do not wish for its singers to be like puppet singers who just listens to whatever the company tells them to do.”
The members also talked about their feelings on SunMi temporarily stopping promotions as part of the Wonder Girls. Especially for SoHee, who is of the same age as SunMi and stopped her high school education for her singer career together with SunMi, said, “It is true that it is hard to be away from the family as still a young student, so I understand how SunMi feels. With that said, I believed that she has thought things out since it is her choice after all.”
The Wonder Girls also emphasized, “Even though ‘Wonder Girls SunMi’ is important, individual ‘SunMi’ is also very important. Since this is her decision on her own life, if us members are to hold on to her, later on when she regrets, we don’t know how we are going to be responsible for that.”
Also, “There are people who are criticising like ‘This is the decision you made in the beginning, why are you calling it ends now?’. We hope people don’t look at it this way since hardship means differently to every individual and they deal with them differently.”
The 4 members of the Wonder Girls had the meeting with 5 fan union representative from about 2pm in the afternoon that day.
Meanwhile, on 23rd January it was announced that SunMi will leave Wonder Girls for the time being. With that, SunMi will be with the Wonder Girls till the end of the month. And from March, she will return to Korea to start preparations for her college life.
And JYP trainee HyeRim (Lim) will be taking over the empty position in the group. Already on 4th February, she had her first official performance as part of the Wonder Girls in China for an event.

Sunmi is in USA right now. She did not return to Korea with the 4 of them.
i don’t get the rationale of her staying in the US while others went home. can anyone enlighten me? what could she have possibly done here while waiting?

do you guys share my totally groundless fear that when Sun Mi returns, So Hee will continue schooling? I mean, education -is- crucial, just that it would be too much for the group if TWO members left at once, so a staggered schooling might be, in fact, the best plan. :(
In the US, college is typically 4 years. Is it the same in Korea?

but i honestly do not get why she’s in the US all by herself. The other members are in Korea with Hae Lim and they left SunMi? I mean she could’ve come with them even though she’s not going to be part of the group anymore..They should have given her some holiday or something to see her family/friends while in Korea. I know they said they were preparing sunmi for the US activities this month but how can she practice without her members? I don’t get it =S
It is possible to Sunmi returns in Korea in the next few days to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the group, the possibility was hinted by JYPE but was not granted as sure (they mentioned it’s depending on the consent of Sunmi’s family).
Sunmi will return to Korea and stay there in March, after the two concerts that were scheduled in the US (opening for Justin Bieber in LA and the PopCon).
sunmi is probably settling matters in US before returning to korea, therefore she stayed behind. The other girls had to go to china, so that’s probably why they may as well dropped by korea.
Plus, sunmi is probably not ready to face the korean media and fans. If she returns there will be media and fans chasing her everywhere.
If I were sunmi I would stay behind in US as well for the time being until the water is calmer in korea.
poor the girls~~ they really having a hard time now~~ i want my sunmi anyway~~ i just hope the next news..jype will announce that sunmi will absolutely return to WG..no mater how many years later…
i’m not against the new member but for me the wonder girls are yeeun, sunye, yoobin, sohee and SUNMI. I BELIEVE SUNMI WILL COME BACK…..

Hopefully SunMi’s decision to pursue her education has made JYPE learned a valuable lesson, when he wants to form new groups in the future.
Training WG at a very young age, sending them to foreign country when two of them are underaged, all of them were/are students.
I know it’s not the case, but reading the interview above, I can’t help but wonder, didn’t it all just happened too fast and too soon?
Wouldn’t be better if the girls were in Korea , building a solid buffer first, getting the chance to get educated first, not being away from their family.
I do believe that JYPE wanted to succeed so badly in the US, that he had underestimated how hard the change was for the girls.

Even though ‘Wonder Girls SunMi’ is important, individual ‘SunMi’ is also very important.
